In-Person Visits Policy
At Gary Mini Dachshunds, the health and safety of our puppies—and our family—is always our top priority. While we understand the desire to meet your new furry friend before adoption, we kindly ask for your understanding regarding our in-person visit policy.
Why We Limit Visits
Our breeding program is run from our family home, where both our puppies and our children live and play. Over the years, we’ve learned just how vulnerable puppies can be, especially in their early weeks. In early 2021, we experienced the heartbreak of losing nearly an entire litter due to an illness introduced during a well-intentioned visit. That painful experience changed how we operate.
To protect our mamas and their litters, we now limit in-person visits to appointment-only and require a refundable deposit to book a visit or schedule a pickup. This ensures we only welcome serious, committed families while maintaining the safest environment possible for our pups.
For Safety and Peace of Mind
Our home is not a showroom—it’s where our children sleep, play, and grow up alongside our cherished Dachshund family. While many are rightly cautious about breeder scams, there’s also a growing concern about scam buyers and theft. We’ve heard too many stories of breeders welcoming uncommitted visitors only to experience break-ins and stolen puppies days later. We won’t take that risk with our home or our dogs.
That’s why we only share our address after a reservation has been made and we’ve arranged a meet-up or pickup appointment at a secure, nearby facility. This helps ensure both safety and peace of mind—for us, for you, and for our puppies.
A Note on Paperwork
We’re currently experiencing delays with AKC registration due to their backlog. Please rest assured this is a temporary delay, and we’ll keep you informed every step of the way. The AKC is catching up, and your pup’s paperwork will follow as soon as possible.
